Chesham objects in other collections

  • Have you spotted an object associated with Chesham in another museum? If so, we would love to know about it. Chiltern Toys had a factory making wooden and other toys in Waterside, Chesham until the outbreak of WWII. This Chiltern Toys bear is in the collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.

Chesham Stories

We Need Your Stories!

'Chesham Stories' is an ongoing web based project to provide teachers and others with stories about life and work in Chesham.

'It was a very happy place to work, we used to sing along to the music on the radio.'

'There was only one other child in the room with me and we had stew and rice every day.'

Do you have a story to tell?

  • What can you tell us about your childhood, schooldays, entertainment, home life or holidays in Chesham?
  • Did you work in one of the local industries?
  • Did your family have a shop in the town?
  • What about your wartime experiences?
  • Did you come to Chesham as a migrant?

You can write something yourself, have an informal chat with us or be sent some questions to jog your memory - we need your stories.

If you need inspiration read other Chesham Stories or look at the BBC WWII Peoples War pages where you will find the story of a young lad's experiences living in Chesham during WWII.

'The last job was to bring in four barrow loads of coal for firing the ovens.'
