Chesham Museum has received a National Lottery grant of £4,490 to assist in the delivery of an exciting heritage outreach project, in 5 locations in Chesham, Buckinghamshire.

Made possible by money raised by National Lottery players, the project focuses on establishing 4 heritage panels on local buildings of merit and an information point in Chesham Library.

Supported through the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), the project will raise the profile of Chesham Museum within the local community, promote its regular activities and promote fundraising and educational programmes to the wider public.

Chesham Museum is a registered charity. It is a community organisation that is staffed wholly by volunteers that work to preserve, share and promote the history of the third largest town in Buckinghamshire through providing research projects, reminiscence sessions with residents and stakeholders, fundraising initiatives, outreach educational talks and walks, and pop-up exhibitions.

Commenting on the award, Trustee Laura Collins said:

“We are thrilled to have received this support thanks to National Lottery players. It has enabled us to engage with key organisations across Chesham to extend the profile of our local Museum to residents that may not be aware of it. We are looking forward to seeing the final information boards being sited in key outdoor locations in the town.”

Large information panels will be sited in four locations in Chesham:

  • Workaid headquarters on Townsend Road
  • The Elgiva Theatre on St Mary’s Way
  • Chesham Town Hall
  • White Hill Centre

Each panel will impart key historical information relevant to its specific location and / or organisation, and the historical use of the building. The fifth location inside Chesham Library will house a freestanding information booth that will allow the Museum to promote its calendar of events, exhibitions and fundraising initiatives. It will also contain a display case for the exhibiting of local historical artefacts. Regular updates will be available on our website  or follow us on Twitter and Facebook.

Thanks to National Lottery players, the Heritage Lottery Fund invests money to help people across the UK explore, enjoy and protect the heritage they care about – from the archaeology under their feet to the historic parks and buildings they love, from precious memories and collections to rare wildlife.
