Arts Council England and Chesham and Villages Community Board Support the Museum’s ‘A Future for Chesham’s Past’ Project
Chesham Museum is delighted to announce that their A Future for Chesham’s Past project has received £14,150 from Arts Council England and £1,000 from the Chesham and Villages Community Board. The project will connect local people with their local history. With the help of the museum’s volunteers the project will create a new website, and a series of resources for people to explore Chesham’s heritage.
The new website will enable people – wherever they live – to discover the stories and objects that connect us with the town’s past. The website will feature objects from the museum’s collection and recollections from local people. There will also be bespoke resources for schools, families and adults, to help them explore their local area. Details of events and activities will be publicised on the new site too.
The museum will also develop its social media presence through an Instagram account, with content created by local secondary school pupils.
Alongside the new website there will be a series of outreach resources created through the project. These include new handling boxes for schools, linked to the National Curriculum, and developed in conjunction with local teachers; an illustrated trail for families; and an outreach exhibition, displayed at venues around Chesham. Special events will be linked to the exhibition.
Museum vice-chair, Karen Perkins, notes: “This project provides an exciting opportunity for Chesham Museum to showcase its future plans and re-establish itself into the lives of our communities, putting the heritage of the town at the heart of its Covid recovery plans.”
The project runs throughout 2022 and the museum is keen for local people to get involved as volunteers. For more information contact us.
